Local tradies sign up to build SOL by Walker on the Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast tradies are gearing up for a major boost, as one of Australia’s oldest builders, Paynter Dixon, has been appointed the lead contractor for the new SOL by Walker residences.

The first 19-storey tower will feature 111 premium residences with spectacular coastal and hinterland views, luxurious wellness-focused amenities, and direct access to the precinct’s bustling retail, dining, and green spaces. Construction is expected to generate 2,000 local jobs, giving Sunshine Coast tradespeople and engineers a rare opportunity to work close to home.

Paynter Dixon CEO James Boyd said the company is excited to bring its century-long experience to the Sunshine Coast.

“SOL by Walker is an exciting chance to deliver high-quality homes within a vibrant city centre, while supporting significant local employment,” Mr Boyd said. “For over 110 years, we’ve delivered landmark projects across Australia, and we’re proud to now contribute to the Sunshine Coast’s growth.”

Senior Project Engineer Amberlie Andrejic, who previously worked on Walker Corporation’s 50 First Avenue tower, said local construction workers are thrilled to have large-scale projects on their doorstep.

“There are so many of us who usually have to travel to Brisbane for big projects. Having this kind of work here on the Coast is fantastic,” she said.

Mayor Rosanna Natoli welcomed the announcement, saying it demonstrates confidence in the Sunshine Coast economy.

“Each new project in Maroochydore City Centre supports local trades, engineers, and suppliers, while attracting more customers to surrounding cafés, retailers, and services,” Mayor Natoli said. “Together, we’re building a city where people can live, work, and raise families close to home, with opportunities comparable to Australia’s major capitals.”

Walker Corporation’s Group Executive of Development, Peter Saba, said Paynter Dixon’s track record made them the perfect partner to deliver the SOL vision.

“Their performance on the nearby Riverlea Retail Shopping Village has been excellent. SOL by Walker will offer premium apartment living at a time of growing excitement around Maroochydore City Centre and broader Sunshine Coast investment,” Mr Saba said.

Contractor Delta Group recently completed site establishment and bulk earthworks, and the first tower is now over 90% sold. With limited residential stock on the Sunshine Coast and billions in government infrastructure spending ahead of the 2032 Olympics, buyer interest remains strong.

When complete, SOL residents will nearly double the CBD’s current population, helping to shape a vibrant, inclusive community at the heart of Maroochydore City Centre. Walker will soon unveil The Penthouse Collection, a series of sky homes with panoramic ocean, hinterland, and city views.
