Lang’s vision one step closer to becoming a reality

A grand vision from the late Lang Walker AO to deliver a more functional and versatile city centre for the Sunshine Coast has become reality after several amendments to the Maroochydore City Centre masterplan were approved.

Walker Corporation are leading the development of the new City Centre for Sunshine Coast Council and SunCentral which will see Maroochydore transformed into one of the country’s most liveable cities, following approval from the State Government to progress the revised Maroochydore City Centre masterplan.

Soon after forming a partnership with Council and SunCentral, Lang brought his placemaking expertise to the drawing board, which has seen Walker Corporation deliver major urban transformations around the country like Parramatta Square, Collins Square, Festival Tower, Rhodes Peninsula, Hope Island and Woolloomooloo Wharf.

The masterplan changes reconfigured the CBD to take advantage of a better layout to drive better activation for businesses, residents and visitors.

Walker Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer David Gallant said Lang would have been incredibly proud to see his grand vision evolve for the Maroochydore City Centre, working with Council and SunCentral to deliver something exceptional for the Sunshine Coast.

“Lang believed the Sunshine Coast had all the ingredients to become one of the country’s best city centres, working with our local partners to make improvements to the masterplan which will ultimately drive more functional and liveable spaces.”

The new city centre responds to the region's rapid growth to deliver a vision that will unlock thousands of new homes and jobs while creating more opportunities for local families to live, work, study and socialise on their doorstep.
